Kiyosaki’s wallet company eventually became bankrupt soon after enjoying success. In 1975, Robert Kiyosaki left the Marine Corps and joined the Xerox Corporation where he worked as a copy machine salesman until he started his own company that specialized in selling nylon and Velcro “surfer” wallets, the first of its kind in the US market. Robert Kiyosaki later on served in the Marine Corps as a helicopter gunship pilot during the Vietnam War in 1972 and due to his prowess he was awarded the Air Medal. When Kiyosaki graduated from Hilo High School, he proceeded on to join the U.S Merchant Marine Academy, New York, where he graduated in the class of 1969 as a deck officer. Kiyosaki has one brother and two sisters. Kiyosaki (1919-1991) who is depicted as the Poor Dad in his bestselling book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, was an educator.
